Not everybody likes the mono sock, but for me, it provided a snug feeling, was simple to get on and offered a good linked feel to the judge despite them sitting higher than some light walking shoes. The brooks shoes are my prime pick as they are a good all-round shoe. Really relaxed, exemplary durability and they required zero break-in time.
